I am certain we will catch each other next visit - there is no keeping me away from the sea air and the gâteaux basque! So special to have layers of my own life overlap with Will's family history here. Please eat some cherry jam and Ossau Iraty for me!
Oh my goodness, yes!! Both are serious diet staples for me. The older Basque cheese guy at my neighborhood's weekly market is so precious and he's always asking "what do you desire?" when I am about to order. It kills me!!
And totally--it's incredible that you get to experience this part of the world with him/his memories AND carve out your own connection with the Basque Country. It's exactly how my experience has been. My husband's family is a mix of Basque and Toulousian, so he came here all of the time growing up, like Will!
